Under the tourmaline name sits a family of related minerals; elbaite supplies most of the gem material seen in jewellery, and its chemistry dictates the colour. Set as a pendant, the gem is well protected and the species' 7 to 7.5 hardness is rarely tested. Heating and, in some material, irradiation are standard in the trade and declared here. Hand-selected by our FGAA gemmologist; made in our own workshop.
