Most price guides answer this in adjectives. Here are the real numbers, taken from the loose sapphires listed on this site as of August 2026. These are our own stock rather than a market survey, and the number of stones behind each row is shown so you can judge how much weight it carries. Brackets holding fewer than five stones are left out rather than dressed up as a range.

What heat does to the price, on our own shelf. Across our Ceylon sapphires, unheated stones sit at a median of A$6,528 per carat against A$3,264 for heated — roughly 2.0× (7 unheated stones against 13 heated). That sits at the lower-middle of the 50–300 per cent premium the trade quotes, and it is a real comparison rather than a rule of thumb. We do not extend the same comparison to our Australian stock, where too few unheated stones are listed to say anything honest.
Prices move and every stone is individual — a single exceptional stone can sit well outside its bracket, which is why the ranges above are wide.
