Australian Sapphires

Australian sapphires are natural sapphires from the volcanic basalt fields of eastern Australia — inky blues, golden partis and peacock teals of remarkable character. Around Inverell in New South Wales and Anakie in Queensland, these fields produce stones with an individuality all their own, and every Australian sapphire we offer is FGAA-assessed in-house.

We mine, cut and grade our own Australian stones — mine to market, no middlemen — with full treatment disclosure, independent certification on request, and free lifetime re-authentication on every stone.

Common questions

Where are Australian sapphires mined?

Australia's sapphires come chiefly from the basalt belt of the eastern states — the Inverell and Glen Innes fields in New South Wales, and the Anakie–Rubyvale fields in central Queensland. These are among the world's most important sapphire sources.

Are Australian sapphires good quality?

Yes — Australian fields produce sapphires of remarkable character, from deep inky blues to the golden partis and peacock teals that are increasingly sought after worldwide. Quality, as with any sapphire, is judged on colour, clarity, cut and carat.

What is the difference between Ceylon and Australian sapphires?

Ceylon (Sri Lankan) sapphires are prized for bright, luminous blues and long historic prestige. Australian sapphires tend toward inky blues and the distinctive teal and parti colours of the basalt belt. As a house mining both origins, we help you choose by colour and character, not origin alone.

Are Australian sapphires heated?

Some are and some are not — and we always tell you which. Many Australian sapphires are gently heated, a disclosed and trade-accepted practice; we also offer unheated Australian stones, each with full treatment disclosure and certification available on request.
