Sapphire is corundum, Mohs 9, second only to diamond, which is why blue sapphire has carried engagement rings through centuries of daily wear. The blue comes from traces of iron and titanium in the crystal, and heat treatment to settle that colour is routine across the trade; where a stone has been heated we say so. The diamonds are harder still, at 10. A swirl design drawn by Ministry of Gems, handcrafted in our own workshop and assessed by our FGAA gemmologist.
